＊My reflective statement toward tasks of this semester
Actually I have a whole-new experience for doing assignments this semester. When we discuss about one task, we go through many processes and realize how important a group should work and share emotions together. In these tasks, we have to deal with many things through modern technology, actually it’s quite interesting and let me find so many ways to get information like reading news on- line. Though technology sometimes brings more problems for doing homework, I still receive many benefits it provides. Blog, news online and revise, these are a part of this English class but I do hope we can use technology to search more interesting things instead of working! Ha ha!

The world’s poorest regions will also need much more help than has been provided to adapt to climate changes that are already unfolding, said the authors of the study, the United Nations’ annual Human Development Report.
The report’s focus on climate and its release date — one week before international talks begin in Bali to shape a new international climate pact — reflect a top goal set by Secretary General Ban Ki-moon: prodding world leaders to act more swiftly on global warming.
Released yesterday in Brasília and online at hdr.undp.org/en/, the report builds on findings of the United Nations’ Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change earlier in the year showing that poor countries face outsize risks in a warming world.
It also offers a more detailed view of how poverty, particularly in areas near the Equator, creates zones of extreme vulnerability to water shortages, droughts, flooding rains and severe storms — all of which are projected to be more frequent or intense if concentrations of greenhouse gases continue to build.
The report also rebukes rich countries for failing to deliver on commitments for helping poor countries increase resilience to climate hazards under the Framework Convention on Climate Change, which dates from 1992 and has been ratified by nearly all the world’s nations.
It noted that through the middle of this year, money delivered to climate-adaptation projects through that treaty’s mechanism amounted to about $26 million — the equivalent of what Britain spends on flood defenses in a week.
The report includes comments from a host of contributors from around the world, including Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg of New York and Desmond Tutu, Archbishop Emeritus of Cape Town.
Archbishop Tutu deplored how countries contributing the most greenhouse gases to the atmosphere were largely shielded from the worst climate impacts by wealth, while doing little to buttress poorer nations against climate hazards. “People are being left to sink or swim with their own resources,” he wrote, saying one result is a world of “adaptation apartheid.”
Some economists and development experts criticized the report yesterday, saying that a quick, costly shift away from fossil fuels, the main source of emissions, could actually backfire, blunting the climb toward prosperity that they say is a prerequisite for action to improve environmental quality.
Another reason for focusing on economic growth and increased ability to withstand climate shocks, this camp says, is that risks are rising not only because of warming but also because population growth in poor places is greatly increasing how many people are exposed to today’s climate-related hazards.
But the new development report, echoing conclusions of the climate panel, argues that a prompt investment in emissions curbs is a bargain compared with the long-term costs of inaction.
The authors, led by Kevin Watkins of the United Nations, said anything less would be a moral and political failure without precedent.
“The bottom line is that the global energy system is out of alignment with the ecological systems that sustain our planet,” said Mr. Watkins, who previously worked for the charity Oxfam. “Realignment will take a fundamental shift in regulation, market incentives and international cooperation.”
The report echoes other United Nations studies and the positions of the European Union and many environmental groups, calling for an enormous reversal in emissions trends. Many groups are calling for greenhouse-gas emissions from developed countries in 2050 to be 80 percent below levels measured in 1990.
It also says some of the burden for curbing the gases must fall on developing countries as well, but with assistance, both financial and technological, from wealthy countries.
Robert O. Mendelsohn, an economist at Yale focused on ecosystems, climate and development, was not swayed. “The U.N. report has got a few facts right but the policy dead wrong,” he said. “An aggressive mitigation plan is likely to be a greater threat to growth than climate change impacts. We do not yet have the technology to implement an aggressive plan and so its near-term cost could be staggering.”

Summary: Famers who have financial problems can decrease their difficulties by trying a new kind of fertilizers-human’s urine. Aside from the yuck feeling of the “side effect”, urine is full of great reasons to put into use in farming. Those advantages include the good way of financial solution, little pollution made to environment and less damage from bugs. Some experiments have proven that the cabbage which is fertilized with urine grows faster and stronger than those isn’t. the natural fertilizer won’t have the trouble of shortage and will bring more beneficial effects to us.

Pain researchers think that men don't prepare for pain. A dental patient says, "I think men just try to fight the pain head-on"
There is the pain only a mother can know. Stephanie Young says, "I thought to myself when I had a child, my husband could never go through this"
Bruce was working out at the gym when he said, "I think it's a big cover-up, men grunt and groan and scream at a gym more than women do. Women are much more stoic"
Some people wonder how pain tolerance is figured out. One weight lifter said, "How do you measure how much you do show as compared to someone else?"
And how about for those who've lived through years of pain. John says, "I think women endure pain better than men do but complain more often about it."
One man says he complained to his wife for years about his stomach problems. What about her ability to cope with pain? He says, "She can take it. I don't know how she can take it. When she goes to the dentist, she has nothing."

My thoughts:
It is an interesting news I saw in NCC Interactive.
When the question “which kind of people can stand for pain better, men or women?” is referred, I think most of people won’t deny the answer— women do suffer more pain than men.
I did think this question seriously before and I think that women usually have a bigger burden than men is a fact. I believe this picture often occurs in everyone’s family-after dinner, the one who still has to work and keeps doing housework until the night is mother in this home. Most of men can read newspaper leisurely after dinner and hold a just reason of getting a tired mood from the hard daily work so they “should” take a great rest right now.
I think that’s why women always have the similar “problem” criticized. Most of men are fed up with their wives’ complaint, but the real reason for women’s blabber may be the workload they need to do. If you have a life always rushing for almost every thing of home sometimes even for career at the same time, then maybe you will have the same “habit” with women- rattling on every single thing in the whole time.
So after the long time women keep supporting the huge work, most women may put up with pain better than men. They will think more about a thing and sometimes with a worst thought of it. Just like the dentist referred” men don't prepare for pain” but women may do this thought more than men do. But I don’t mean to scold men for their lack of paying responsibilities to the family, what I really want to express is : no matter what level of pain you can endure, if men and women can find a way of balance, the life of family would be much more better then. Isn’t it a good way to think?

One man says he complained to his wife for years about his stomach problems. What about her ability to cope with pain? He says, "She can take it. I don't know how she can take it. When she goes to the dentist, she has nothing."
In the end, we all have to grin and bear it.

My thoughts:
It is an interesting news I saw in NCC Interactive.
When the question “which kind of people can stand for pain better, men or women?” is referred, I think most of people won’t deny the answer— women do suffer more pain than men.
I did think this question seriously before and I think that women usually have a bigger burden than men is a fact. I believe this picture often occurs in everyone’s family-after dinner, the one who still has to work and keeps doing housework until the night is mother in this home. Most of men can read newspaper leisurely after dinner and hold a just reason of getting a tired mood from the hard daily work so they “should” take a great rest right now.
I think that’s why women always have the similar “problem” criticized. Most of men are fed up with their wives’ complaint, but the real reason for women’s blabber may be the workload they need to do. If you have a life always rushing for almost every thing of home sometimes even for career at the same time, then maybe you will have the same “habit” with women- rattling on every single thing in the whole time.
So after the long time women keep supporting the huge work, most women may put up with pain better than men. They will think more about a thing and sometimes with a worst thought of it. Just like the dentist referred” men don't prepare for pain” but women may do this thought more than men do. But I don’t mean to scold men for their lack of paying responsibilities to the family, what I really want to express is : no matter what level of pain you can endure, if men and women can find a way of balance, the life of family would be much more better then. Isn’t it a good way to think?

For my new classmates in NCU !
Hi~everyone! My name is Jennifer. Chinese name is 沈于暄. I will give you a self intruduction in this article.
This year is maybe a turning point of my life because of the great change occurring in this summer vacation- becoming an university student. Like many of my high school classmates, I hold a beautiful and joyful imagination toward the days in college but and the same time, with fear. This is the very first time I leave home. Then, be alone. The first time when I recognize this situation , the feeling is truly unbearable. Though I have already thought about this condition for several times, I still received a sorrowful mood at that moment.
I still get the serious homesick now but I also want to pursue my dream which has existed in my mind for many years-I want to chase what I want to get in my life, incluing knowledge, dependence , frienships and many other ones. For these reasons, I choose a college far from my hometown.
I may be not so brilliant like you , my new classmates but I really want to have great frienships and new lives with you in these four years. So hope we will be good partners for each other in the future. I write these sentences with all true feelings in my heart. I will expect the days with you here. Wish all of you a wonderful life here!
